THE CITY OF LIGHTS, PARIS IS AN EPICENTER FOR CULTURAL, POLITICAL AND SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENT IN THE MODERN WORLD. IT WAS FIRST INHABITED BY THE 'PARISII' (A SUB TRIBE OF THE CELTS FROM WHERE IT GOT ITS NAME), THEN THE ROMANS AND LATER THE MEROVINGIAN DYNASTY FROM WHICH POINT IT WOULD GRADUALLY DEVELOP INTO THE LARGEST AND MOST PROSPEROUS CITY IN MODERN DAY FRANCE.

IN THE 18TH CENTURY, PARIS WOULD BECOME A HUB FOR PHILOSOPHICAL AND SCIENTIFIC STUDIES KNOWN AS THE 'AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT' AND IN 1789, A SYMBOL FOR SOCIAL AND POLITICAL REFORMATION WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION. THE REVOLUTION WOULD GO ON TO OVERTHROW THE MONARCHY AND ESTABLISH A REPUBLIC. IT WOULD BECOME THE STARTING POINT FOR AN OVERALL GLOBAL DECLINE IN ABSOLUTE MONARCHIES AND AN INCREASE IN REPUBLICS AND LIBERAL DEMOCRACIES.

THE IMPACT PARIS HAS HAD ON THE WORLD IS FAR-REACHING AND UNDENIABLE. TODAY, PARIS CONTINUES TO EXERT GLOBAL INFLUENCE IN THE POLITICAL (IN THE CADRE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION), INTELLECTUAL AND CULTURAL REALMS.
